Head of Al-Nabaa Forum for Dialogue Meets UN Special Representative Following Security Council Briefing on UNAMI

Following his historic briefing to the United Nations Security Council on the conclusion of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) mandate, the Head of the Al-Nabaa Forum for Dialogue, Ali Al-Talqani, met with Dr. Mohammad Al-Hassan, the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General.

This meeting comes within the broader context of ongoing institutional engagement, as Dr. Al-Hassan had previously visited the Al-Nabaa Forum for Dialogue, considered the first of its kind by a Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to an Iraqi research center and civil society organization, prior to his briefing before the Security Council. The meeting featured an exchange of perspectives and a discussion of the practical implications resulting from the termination of UNAMI's political mission, with a focus on the nature of the UN role in the coming phase, which will shift toward providing advisory services and technical support in the areas of enhancing good governance, protecting human rights, and supporting sustainable development pathways, in alignment with the principle of full respect for Iraqi national sovereignty.

This meeting constitutes a final and practical milestone in a long dialogue process, during which emphasis was placed on the importance of transforming this institutional transition into an opportunity to enhance the capacity of the Iraqi political system to efficiently manage the transitional phase and address future challenges at the political, social, and developmental levels.

The meeting provided an occasion to express appreciation for opening channels of institutional dialogue during previous stages, and to reaffirm the ongoing role of research and dialogue institutions, foremost among them the Al-Nabaa Forum for Dialogue, in following up on and monitoring the implementation of recommendations, as well as promoting the principles of democracy, social justice, and human rights as essential pillars for sustainable stability and national prosperity. Al-Nabaa Forum for Dialogue affirms that the relationship between Iraq and the United Nations is entering a new phase based on technical partnership and institutional cooperation, stressing that Iraqi intellectual and research institutions will remain a conscious and responsible partner in the process of national development and state consolidation.
