Al-Nabaa Forum and Foreign Ministry Discuss Advancing Research Diplomacy

Baghdad – In an effort to strengthen integration between academic thought and official diplomacy, Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning, received Ali Al-Talaqani, Head of Al-Nabaa Forum for Dialogue. The meeting was attended by Anwar Muayyad, Public Relations Officer at the Forum, alongside Razzaq Al-Mashkoor, Counsellor and Acting Head of the Political Planning Department, and Zain Al-Abidin Al-Khairallah, First Secretary at the Undersecretary’s Office.

Discussions focused heavily on regional political crises and their geopolitical fallout for Iraq, as both sides reviewed mechanisms to safeguard sovereign decision-making against regional shifts. The meeting devoted particular attention to foreign policy formulation, emphasizing the adoption of scientific methodologies to navigate present complexities.

Both parties highlighted the importance of activating "research diplomacy" and establishing practical avenues of cooperation between think tanks and the ministry to supply decision-makers with accurate, forward-looking studies. They also emphasized the role of intellectual institutions in supporting diplomatic work and affirmed the ministry's openness to building sustainable ties that serve the state's core interests, translating research insights into tangible political outcomes that bolster Iraq's standing internationally.
